Learn the fundamentals of growing your own vegetables, fruits and herbs in our Northern climate. This workshop is geared to new and less experienced gardeners growing in the ground or raised beds.

Are you interested in growing your own food but don't know where to start? Or maybe you've dabbled in food production with mixed results? This workshop will focus on growing food from a practical and sustainable point of view. It will cover:

  • the best yielding, easiest crops to grow in our short, cool growing season (annuals and perennial foods)
  • keys to growing the common (but more challenging) crops like peppers, basil etc.
  • the fundamental aspects of food gardening (site selection, soil preparation, best watering practices etc.)
  • sustainable pest management practices and crop rotation
  • a Q&A session

This workshop will focus on growing food in the ground or in raised beds. If you are looking to grow food in containers, please check out our Growing Food in containers workshop instead.

The cost for this workshop is $30 (plus tax).

Note: Workshop spaces are transferable but non-refundable.
